Dry Ice Blasting

NEXT GENERATION CLEANING SOLUTION

Dry Ice Blasting is a method that projects rice-sized pellets as the blast cleaning material. These pellets are jet accelerated by compressed air with traditional blasting methods. This cutting-edge versatile technique is capable of cleaning fine details of large scale projects without the fear of deterioration like its predecessors.

The technique was designed to replace high-pressure water cleaning and other blasting methods that use abrasive materials such as sand, glass, and plastic. It also replaces the use of chemicals, solvents, and other hazardous cleaning processes.

This blasting can be used for electrical, electronics, industrial equipment, commercial properties, factories, warehouses & more.  Our highly skilled blasting team is ready to restore your project to its original beauty with stunning results.

Why dry ice blasting?

DRY ICE BLASTING F.A.Q.

Environmental Management Specialists (EMS), has led the way in the Hoosier State. Providing low-cost blasting Services for businesses, churches, and schools region-wide for Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

Dry ice blasting is a completely dry process. It is non-toxic, non-conductive, and non-abrasive.

Dry ice vaporizes immediately on contact with treated surfaces. This gives several advantages in comparison with traditional blasting methods. There is no extra waste material (sand, glass, plastic, etc.). The only waste to be swept or vacuumed up is the coating dislodged by the treatment. Making it possible to clean objects other blasting methods’ residual material would collect defeating the purpose.

This blasting process allows cleaning to be performed while machines are running!

No need for dismantling or disassembly, reducing or eliminating costly downtime.

Practically Everything!

Dry Ice Blasting has a massive spectrum of cleaning applications. This revolutionary technology allows for heavy-duty cleaning in places you’ve never thought possible.

Just imagine if you could pressure wash or sandblast but without the water or sand getting anywhere… That’s Dry Ice Blasting!  Without the mess created by the blasting material, it opens up the option to clean equipment and reach tough places without trying to contain a mess in a tricky location.

Dry ice pellets are accelerated in a jet of compressed air and strike the coating to be removed at velocities up to the speed of sound. Cleaning results from three effects:

Kinetic Effect: When dry ice pellets strike a surface at the speed of sound, any coating on the surface is cracked and loosened.

Thermal Effect: The low temperature of the pellets makes the coating brittle, cracks it, and loosens it as a result of reduced bonding between the coating and the underlying surface. This allows dry ice to permeate the coating.

Explosive Effect – Sublimation: Dry ice penetrates the coating and immediately sublimes (passes directly from solid to vapor state). This results in a 700-fold increase in volume, an explosive effect that lifts the coating off the surface.
